At long last, here it is! After almost a year of planning and revising, Saint Paul Seminary and Sapientia Etudiants Recherche proudly presents to you the maiden issue of Aletheia: A Journal of Philosophy, Communication and Culture. Crossing the threshold of these three distinct yet interrelated studies, Altheia whose name derives from the Greek word for "Truth" or "Unconcealment" tries to see the meeting point - i.e. Aletheia - The search for the Truth. And indeed, nothing is of the Truth if not anchored on the One who said that He is the "Way, the Truth and the Life". Edited by Sem. Jerome Precia Ypulong, current Chairman of Sapientia with the guidance of yours truly and the Saint Paul Fathers and Saint Paul Seminary Faculty, Aletheia now enters the field of thw written world of Truth-seeking Wisdom-loving adventurers. The maiden issue includes academic articles by Fr. Norman Melchor Pena Jr, SSP (Saint Paul Seminary), Br. Romualdo Abulad, SVD (UST), Amable "Ka Abe" Tuibeo (PUP-Manila), Fr. Ross Heruela, SVD (Divine Word School of Theology), Ian Gabriel Ceblano (SPS), Jhon Fred Caranzo (SPS), Jerome Ypulong (SPS) and academic essays by Fr. Luis David, SJ (ADMU) and Cl. Buen Andrew Cruz, SSP (SPS/DWST). And so I invite you to subscribe now or if you want you may pass your papers too. Just follow the Turabian format of Research or other similar formats (8,000-12,000 words only) saved as MS Word file and send it to [email protected] or fill up the contact form below. This is part one of a series of articles about research. This is especially written for my students in Philosophy who were asked to write their own research papers. Notwithstanding, I believe this can also help other researchers out there. Kudos! Dr Romualdo Abulad, SVD, once wrote in his foreword to my friend's thesis that his research or thesis is a testament and crowning glory of his academic life more than his diploma. And indeed I consent to it. Far from being the pre-requisite to land an employment that will merit you high salary, education should be viewed as pagpapakatao. Just like what Dr Jose Rizal said (although in a different line) life is suffering and those who can survive it are only those who have the intelligence and the heart. Therefore, your research must be viewed not only as a burden given by your tempestuous teachers but as challenge of higher calling. First thing to consider is the style. Different schools prescribe different styles. In my case I prefer he Turabian Style (Chicago Manual of Style) because it is more used for humanities and it is more analytic than others. This is also what I ask my students to follow. In the Turabian format you have the option between footnotes and endnotes, as for my students' case I prefer the utilization of footnotes. In Microsoft Word, you only need to click the "reference" tab and then click another known as "insert footnote" in order to produce a footnote and then begin your reference citation. As you can see above that is the steps. Then a number will appear after your quotation and another at the bottom part of the paper like this: The next most important thing to do is to formulate your thesis statement. The Thesis Statement is the heart of your research. It is the goal and the summit of your research. Your research will revolve around this. Below is an example of chapter one (the number of chapters depends on the school's tradition but since I just asking my students to make a baby... thesis then I only require them three chapters: Introduction, Analysis and Conclusion). Chapter one is so easy there's no need to sweat over it but the most difficult there is formulating the thesis statement: what would you like to prove?
Abstract:Pope Francis issued an encyclical entitled Laudato Si': On the Care of our Common Home. In line with this, the Ateneo Alumni Organization hosted a conversation on the said topic. This paper presents the arguments presented, especially that of Dr. Fabian Dayrit, on the Technocratic Paradigm and the environment.
My students and others studying the human person and the environment will find this paper useful especially those writing their thesis. |
